After I plant pea seeds in late February I plant lettuce seeds in April. This morning I worked in the garden, planting the tiny lettuce seeds. If you have never seen them, you would have a hard time believing that this is what a head of lettuce comes from. I marvel at their size every year.
This morning I planted Buttercrunch lettuce seeds. I plant these every year as well as others such as Little Gem Romaine, Black Seeded Simpson, and Rouge de Hiver, to name a few. When these seeds first emerge, they are very small specks of green in the dirt. Over time they get much bigger and produce large, handsome leaves of lettuce that are so tasty!
I had never realized the freshness of vegetables until I started growing my own. What an experience it is to pick them and eat them soon after. The tastes are amazing. Lettuce, in particular, is so fresh and delicious! Now I grow many types of lettuce to experiment and see which ones I like best.
